Place Abandoned Land exaleimma eksalimo — The renowned Byzantinist George Ostrogorski has already highlighted in 1951, based on a Slavonic charter of the Serbian king Stefan Uroš IV Dušan from 1336, that the Byzantine noblemen, living in the surrounding area of Štip, were deprived of their landed property and replaced by Serbian noblemen, who had arrived in the area in the wake of the Serbian expansion in Byzantine Macedonia. Moreover, Ostrogorski came to the conclusion that this was not an isolated case of redistribution of landed property, but part of a broader picture of rapid political and military change in Byzantine Macedonia. Still in 1998 Mark Bartusis underlined that: “As for the demographic changes brought about by Dušan’s conquest of Byzantine Macedonia, the Byzantine sources say little, and the Serbian sources say even less.” A clear indicator in this context is the emergence of the specific term exaleimma (Greek ἐξάλειμμα; Slavonic eksalimo) in Milutin’s charter. Mark Bartusis interprets exaleimma as “ruined properties” and states: “[…] an exaleimma was an escheated property, which reverted to the owner’s lord (a private landlord or the state in its role as a landlord) as a result of the death or flight of its owner (usually a paroikos) without leaving a proper heir.”
Administrative unit North Macedonia — The Prespa agreement, also known as the Prespes agreement, Prespa accord or Treaty of Prespa, is an agreement reached on 12 June 2018 between Greece and North Macedonia, under the United Nations' auspices, resolving a long-standing dispute over the latter's name. Signed beside Lake Prespa from which it took its name, and ratified by the parliaments of both countries by 25 January 2019, it went into force on 12 February 2019 when the two countries notified the UN of the deal's completion, following the ratification of the NATO accession protocol for North Macedonia on 8 February. It replaces the interim accord of 1995 and sees the country's constitutional name, then Republic of Macedonia, changed to Republic of North Macedonia erga omnes. The Prespa agreement cannot be superseded by any other agreements or treaties nor revoked, and its provisions are legally binding for both parties in terms of international law and will remain in force indefinitely. , Region of Skopje / Скопски регион
